Shearing in style

KJ - Happy New Year!

Two days after Christmas and the Alpacas were shorn! We had had to cancel the shearer previously as little man was so sick and Hubby and I had three hours sleep between us.  Mike Snow comes across from Victoria (Oasis Alpacas) to travel (and shear) up the East coast of Australia and covers Tassie too.  He is well sought after and a registered shearer with AAA, so we knew the 'pacas would be in good hands (even though I was anxious abut some of the girls being due in the next three weeks).

It is very hot and humid here, with very dry paddocks!  The rest of the girls were sheared last Sunday, and I think they were very happy about it.  Little Teagan and Melony had their ear-tags put in, so they would have been a bit sore :(

The matings and spit-offs continue in earnest...poor Eclipse is stuffed!  The other girls were sheared on the weekend and good timing, as the weather has heated up again, everything is looking very dry!  I will post the before/after photos of the girls (like a weight-loss advertisement...look I lost 2 kilos in one day!!).

Ok, so we are still reeling in shock from the little skinny deer/sphynx animals that came out from underneath the boys' fleece.  It was the girls' turn next, but the shearer said that only Malibu, Vodka and Kayjay needed shearing - the others didn't have enough fleece!

Oh my! Our first shearing day at Macquarie Springs... I was not prepared for what would emerge from under all that fleece! Where have my boys gone?  They have been replaced by Sphynx!
