Shelter in a storm

Wet, cold and dirty - Eclipse
The boys have no shelter in their new paddock, and although I know they don't always like going inside a shelter, I wanted them to have the option in the rain and wind.

We purchased a small double-door shed, and then did some paddock clearing to find the best place for it.  We have lots of ghost gums, so we can't put the shed under those as the large boughs often break off (hence their nickname of 'widow makers').  The rest of the paddock is a bit hilly, and at one end there are blackberries and marsh...hmmmm...
We decided to build it adjacent to the boy's pen, so that it would form one side.
Putting the panels together
We had to wait until the weather was ok, we have been having some windy days, and I didn't fancy trying to hold up shed panels in the wind!

Husband and I worked hard to erect the shed, with little one trying to help.  I hate following instructions...I do better with IKEA stuff (just pictures)...Husband is just as bad, so we were both dreading putting the shed together.  We laid everything out and in the end there was only one piece missing! 2y.old had run off with it and shoved it into the water trough.

In the end it was very hard to erect on a hill, with gradients in two directions, but we did our best.

Just have to cut these planks away...
I had to laugh at the boys who were very scared of their new shelter.  I lined their buckets up near it, and they tried very hard to stretch their lips into the bucket and eat whilst keeping their eyes on the shed (I don't know who or what they thought was going to come out of it!!).  They all were very uneasy, but later they cushed outside in the sunshine :)

    1. Hehe, they are still scared!! I am going to miss their bucket feeds (supplement) for a couple of days, then give it to them in the shed :) We will see how that goes!

  2. Now the challenge to get them inside...I can envisage a day or two of inching them bowls closer and closer. Great description of that 'on guard lip stretching' LOL.

    1. I am going to feed them in the shed today, well...put their buckets in there. They haven't had a bucket feed for a couple of days, and I will put in an extra handful of barley...

  3. They'll go inside in their own time, no probs. Lookin' good! Love the idea of the wee fella running off with the bit you needed and dropping it off in the trough! Shirley & Robbie

    1. Not only did he take off with the roof 'edge', he also pinched the phillips head and had chucked that in the trough too! We were looking everywhere for it, and I ended up getting another one until we found that one much later!
