UK Granddad, stud manicures and beautiful Tasmania #1

Granddad Pat taking Hamish for a walk
We have had Husband's Dad staying with us for two weeks, he sadly left us to return to Leicester UK on Saturday.  We visited lots of places around Tasmania, but we also got the Alpaca's manicures completed with his help! Granddad learnt a lot about Alpacas, but the cows and chickens were his favourite, they don't have the attitude problems that our pregnant girls have!

Ferry - travels between Melbourne and Devonport
Places we have seen/been;
Granddad mowing our (very) dry paddock

Cataract Gorge Launceston

Chairlift - Cataract Gorge Launceston

Blueberry Picking

Mt Ben Lomond

City Park & 'Thomas'

Weymouth Beach

At home

Leaning Church Vineyard

Platypus & Echidna House - Beauty Point

Steam Fest - Sheffield

Unfortunately I couldn't get photos of us doing the manicures - it was a case of 'all hands'...suffice to say that I have learnt that each Alpaca will react differently.  In most cases the Alpaca's have cushed, and we have had to cut their nails whilst in cush.  Vodka cried and sobbed through the whole procedure after taking careful aim and covering me with spit (before I could get her in the bracelet hold).  Our stud, Eclipse, was the worst! A show male, walks beautifully on a halter, is well-known as a kicker.  Trying to catch a back leg is impossible and could lead to injury, trying to pick up a front leg means getting kicked by the back leg (he hunches his body and kicks around and forward).  We ended up getting him to the floor and completing the task quickly whilst he SCREAMED like a girl!!!
Happily, that's all for the toenails for now, the other's will need doing in a couple of months.
