Chance and Cocoa |
Boo headed down to the birthing tree, and I was quickly joined by Hubby, 3y old and 16y.old son (who repeatedly told me that it was 'disgusting and gross'). I felt lucky that we were actually going to see our first birth!!! All other births had been over and done with, so I prayed that nothing would go wrong...got out my video...and cheered on Boo.
3y.old was a little noisy until the tiny little nose came poking out, and then his eyes were just enormous as he watched this beautiful cria born. Two little legs came out from underneath, and as Boo moved (she sat down to give birth), the rest of the body came sliding out. The little cria was breathign on it's own, but Hubby quickly checked that it's airways were clear. Boo was already calling to it, but I managed to see that she had given birth to a rose-grey little boy (with grey markings on his head)!!
It was pretty amazing, and I was so very happy that everything went well. Boo then pushed out the placenta, and the little cria was soon on his feet and looking for the milk. The other 'pacas were sniffing/kissing and biting him as Boo bossed them all about and kept rounding up her little man. Our new addition, and what a way to end 2013...Macquarie Springs Cairo.
